The future is bright for the girls’ basketball team in Heidelberg. The Lady Oilers are sending two juniors – Rha'khaya Jones and Za'Kala McDonald to the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star game, with head coach Broderick Hall coaching the 1A-3A South team.
“It means a lot to me to be selected as the head coach,” Hall said. “It shows that we are getting people's attention and showcasing Heidelberg’s skills. We have a talented team this season and will for several years to come, but that is constant here at Heidelberg.
The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is inviting kind-hearted locals to offer shelter pets a loving home during the holidays. Sponsored by Wilmington Trust, the humane society’s annual “Home for the Holidays” program aims to place shelter pets in foster homes from December 19 through January 3.
The ultimate goal for this seasonal fostering program is to find permanent homes for the animals. Participating in the program provides families with a “test run” opportunity before considering a permanent adoption.
Four years apart has not loosened the bond betweenEddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry. Gentry died in a Sept. 2017 helicopter crash, but Montgomery says he still feels him in his heart and soul.

I stopped by the feed store the other day. Not the new one down the road with all the pre-packaged bags and nationwide distribution centers, but the old one where the wood floors thick with corn dust still creak under your step, receipts are handwritten and the grain mix of your choice is poured into feedsacks and tied off in a miller’s knot faster than you can follow. The younger kids run off through the aisles looking under pallets and over piles of barley sacks for the calico mama cat that surely is out training her spring kittens how to keep the store free of any intruders as an old farmer sits at the counter casually casting off his morning talking about what needs to be done.

A former teacher in the Central DeWitt Community School District is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Ramsey Hinkle was arrested on Friday.
She’s being charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee.
According to a letter from the school district, Hinkle was placed on leave in the fall of 2016 following a report of an inappropriate relationship.
She was let go in March 2017.
A statement from the Central DeWitt Community School District said they want to reassure the community that the district followed policies and Iowa law.
